She is greeted with terrible news that her mother has fallen ill. She speaks to her mother for the first time in years and the two have a teary reconcillation. Jo wants to return home to care for her mother, but her mother convinces her to stay in LA until the end of the audition process for the show she’s been trying out for. She reluctantly agrees, with her mother promising her she would still be around after. Jo gets the part, and calls her mother the minute she hears of the news. Her mother is elated and Jo comes home the next day. She arrives late in the evening and the mother and daughter spend the rest of the evening catching up.
